| Established in 2009, Countryside Large Animal Internship program offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to new graduate veterinarians. As a full-service hospital, interns will experience all aspects of a hospital, surgery, and ambulatory veterinary practice. Our primarily equine based clinic makes for easily accessible equine practice knowledge. Along with the equine case load a unique aspect of our clinic is the great amount of production animal experience including cattle, swine, goats, sheep, and camelid patients. We strive to create an environment that allows the intern the opportunity to work with a variety of large animals to gain the experience and the skill set to have a successful career in equine and/ or large animal practice. | Type Practice: | Full service practice offering surgical, medical, emergency and ambulatory services. We serve a largely upper level Western and English performance base clientele. We also serve a large number of agricultural animal clientele including cattle, small ruminants, swine and camelids. | | Facilities: | Twelve stall equine hospital, large treatment area, three stall intensive care unit, surgery suite, farrier room, equine repro area with stocks, breeding dummy, standing surgery room, food animal surgery room, small ruminant/neonatal intensive care unit, portable hydraulic chute and a tilt table. We offer a wide variety of services. Digital radiography and ultrasonography, endoscopy, arthroscopy, full therapeutic and soft tissue surgery, regenerative medicine, along with several routine surgeries (equine, cattle and Swine),and appointments. We also offer custom conditioning and rehabilitation programs on our underwater treadmill. | | Caseload: | Varies with the season | | Types Of Cases: | 80% Equine, 15% beef cattle, and 5% swine/ small ruminant/camelid. Our equine case load consists of 55% lameness, 15% surgery, 15% medical, 5% reproduction, 5% rehab, and 5% farrier work. | | Workload: | Varies with season. 24/7 emergency duty in house and ambulatory, elective surgeries. lameness, reproduction, power dentistry, various medical and surgical emergency cases. small ruminant, elective procedures, herd health consultation, production medicine, podiatry and routine health care. | | Philosophy Of Internship: | Intern has the opportunity to work with a variety of large animals to gain the experience and the skill set to have a successful career in equine and/or large animal practice. | | Prereq: | Completion of DVM (or equivalent) degree, successful completion of NAVLE, letter of intent, resume, three letters of reference, ability to obtain Colorado license. Medical insurance stipend. | | Employment Contracts: | 12 month contract June 1st 2018 thru June 15th 2019 | | Internship Duties: | Hospital and ambulatory: Assistance in handling medical and surgical cases, some anesthesia, shared emergency call and night care of hospitalized patients. | | Emergency Duty: | One weekend primary on call every 5th weekend and one weekend off a month.
